What makes men a MAN? A pretty tough question isn't it? Well, the answer is just simple.

Let's all give the credit to male's dominant sex hormone, the TESTOSTERONE. What is it about testosterone that makes men truly a MAN? In this article we are going to tackle the hormone, it's functions, and other facts which would explain its dominance in men.

Testosterone is the hormone responsible for male characteristics. Although females also have testosterone, however, the levels are higher in men. Testosterone commences the maturity of the male internal and external reproductive organs during fetus development. It is also essential for the production of sperm in adult life. Testosterone is linked with sex drive. Testosterone also affects bone and muscle structures, men's storage of fats, and even the production of red blood cells. It is known to boost libido both in men and women.

Levels of testosterone in the blood are tightly regulated by the brain. A decrease or increase in their levels will allow great impact not only to men's sexual drive but with the general health. Early during fetus development, a decrease in the levels of testosterone can lead to congenital abnormalities. In adult men in can lead to various physical changes such as reduction of muscle bulk, increase muscle fat and low muscle tone. It also affects mood and sexual drives. It causes poor erectile functions, mood swings, and poor sexual performance. It can also affect cognitive functions and may give rise to memory loss, sleep disturbances, and poor concentration.

An increase in their level is as detrimental as having it on a low level; however, it affects women more on a negative note. High levels of testosterone in females would cause infertility and medical conditions such as polycystic ovary and ovarian cancer.

Maintaining balance and proper regulation of this powerful hormone can definitely boost men's dominant characteristics. Hence, it is important to have a proper diet, appropriate supplements, rest, sleep, exercise, and a healthy, stress-free lifestyle.
